What would having more control over spending help you do?
A spending journal is most useful when it serves a purpose. You might want fewer surprise purchases, a clearer food budget or room for something important. Chief saves the goal you actually describe and helps turn your purchases into a useful review.
What is useful to record?
- Purchase and amount
- Currency and category
- Expense, income or transfer
Say the amount and currency with the purchase. Tell your agent whether money went out, came in or moved between your own accounts. A transfer should not inflate your expenses. When you correct a purchase, ask to update the existing entry so it is not counted twice.
A review with a purpose.
Compare recorded spending by category with the previous period and any target you set. Separate transfers, keep currencies distinct and choose one specific adjustment.
Reviews work with the information available to your agent. They should explain missing coverage and distinguish a possible pattern from proof. You can change or pause the review.
